Jon,
You should check out Interstate Music. They have great prices and great customer service. Plus, they put out an awesome catalog!

These guys are really sucking lately. Their prices remain competitive, but they take forever to ship stuff--maybe as a by-product of becoming too successful too soon.
I ordered a cymbal from them ten days ago, and they haven't shipped it from their factory yet. Keep in mind, this is an item that they claim is in stock. This is the second time this has happened (the last time, I cancelled my order). Forty-eight hour shipping time, my ass...
Anyway, just consider this the next time you're thinking about placing an order with them. If you want it within three weeks or so, buy it somewhere else.

I'll second Jon, although 'sucking lately' may not be entirely accurate. I ordered a set of their "Tour" bags a year and a half ago, which were supposedly 'in stock' at the time.
2 months later I finally got them. Perhaps they have been 'sucking for a while'!

I had the same problem They were nice enough, but the order took a long time.
I've had good experiences with musiciansfriend.com, 8thstreet.com and music123.com. I haven't tried the ones mentioned above, but I will definitely compare their prices next time.
I have had quick service with musiciansfriend.com.
Thoss are all good, but the only one I've found that can compete with Midwest's prices is www.drumsonsale.com They're really inexpensive. Most of these sites price match, though, so it's almost irrelevant what they charge (they'll match any competitor's price anyway).
The reason I went with Midwest this time was because they offer a free t-shirt and cymbal cleaner with any Zildjian cymbal over a certain amount of money, plus I don't get screwed with CA tax. The wait, though, is really bad. I suspect they drop-ship almost everything, and just claim to have stuff in stock.
